Humanist Response Guides
3 Aligning AI & Humanist Values
A number of humanist values — and in particular, respect for the truth — are directly threatened by some aspects of AI systems, for example, hallucinating chatbots and the spread of Al slop. Another concern in the possible impact of AI on what it means to be ‘human’ and how we think — ingratiating ‘personal assistants’ are of particular concern, along with digital delusion and digital twinning (producing a digital replica of someone that can ‘think’ and write like they do and stand in for them). Clearly proposals on labelling and deceptive impersonation need to make allowance for satire / humour and legitimate anonymity.

3a How Unique are Humans in the Age of AI
What's the Problem? We are accustomed to thinking of the human race as unique in the world (universe?), but recent advances in our understanding of animal sentience and the extraordinary developments in AI are causing us to question what is distinctive about being ‘human’ and how we might protect those attributes that we most value from being compromised or replaced by AI.
