Humanism for the Common Good

Humanity is facing unprecedented challenges as a result of technological advance, the destruction of vital habitats, burning fossil fuels, and a breakdown in the rules-based international order. Our Group is exploring the question: what role humanism?

Humanism for the Common Good is an independent, collaborative project concerned to promote humanist thinking and practice. We are focused on the growing threats to democracy and social wellbeing posed by fake news, misinformation and lies, and by AI systems being built and marketed by unaccountable Big Tech (and potentially, rouge actors), and catastrophic climate breakdown (which is wreaking havoc on people and the natural world).

Many of the issues associated with these developments are complex and fast-evolving and it’s not always obvious how best to respond to the threats they pose.

With this in mind, we are developing a set of Humanist Response Guides to help people of goodwill live up to the various aspirations spelt out in the Declaration of Modern Humanism. Hit the button to see the Guides.

We are not seeking to tell people what to think or what to do, rather our Guides explore some of the underlying moral issues and suggest arguments and sources readers might find helpful along with organisations and initiatives that they may want to contact or support.

Fighting Fake has kindly provided a temporary home for this initiative whilst we develop our Guides. Use the button to contact us and mark your note Humanism for the Common Good. Thank you!
